PNA-X and PNA-C Series Touchscreen Note - Touchscreen/USB Issues and Patch


If you have an E836xC or N5230C PNA model with a hard drive version of S.10.64 and your touchscreen On/Off control or Calibrate button do not work, you may need to install a registry patch. Download and place the patch anywhere on the PNA, then execute it using the default settings. The patch will be applied and the PNA will reboot. The rest of the below instructions DO NOT apply to these PNA models. Download the registry patch (30kB.)


If you have an N5242A with a serial prefix BELOW MY4822 or SG4822,
and you want to upgrade firmware to 8.33 (or above) or if you are having touchscreen or front panel USB problems, please contact us using the email address at the bottom of this page. If you do upgrade firmware, the touchscreen will stop functioning from within the PNA application.
The rest of the below instructions DO NOT apply to those PNA's with a serial prefix below xx4822.


Due to the various touchscreens, drivers, and firmware used in the PNA-X and E836xC or N5230C models, it is possible for the touchscreen or USB or front panel to stop functioning under some conditions. This patch should solve these problems for the instrument identified below. After the patch is installed, you must install firmware revision A.08.33.13 or above. Installation only takes a few minutes. The PNA will reboot during this process.

Perform patch if your PNA-X (N5242A): Perform patch if your PNA-C model:
  • has a serial number prefix of MY4822 or SG4822 or later
        and has a Hard Disk version of S.09.62 or below (See Help, About)
  • touchscreen does not function properly
  • touchscreen keys (or Calibrate softkey) are greyed out after pressing System, Touchscreen
  • USB ports or front panel fail to function
  • has a Hard Disk version of S.10.64 or below (See Help, About)
  • touchscreen does not function properly
  • touchscreen keys (or Calibrate softkey) are greyed out after pressing System, Touchscreen
  • USB ports or front panel fail to function

Do not perform this patch if the Hard Disk revision and serial prefix (for PNA-X only) do not match the above conditions.


Instructions:

  1. Download the self-extracting patch file below.
  2. Place it anywhere on the PNA hard drive (D:\ drive is recommended)
  3. If you don't already have A.08.33.13 (or later), you may want to download it now and place it in D:\Updates\Firmware for later use
  4. Close the PNA application (File, Exit)
  5. Execute the patch file (touchscreenpatch.exe) by double-clickin on it.
  6. Click OK at the first message. Do NOT change the default extraction location! Click Unzip.
  7. The files will be extracted; click Close. The update process will begin.
  8. The PNA will reboot and upon restart, you will see a command window displayed for a minute or so.
  9. Eventually, a message will be displayed indicating that the PNA will reboot one more time. Click OK.
  10. After the PNA reboots, and if not already done, install firmware A.08.33.13 or above.
  11. You will need to recalibrate the touchscreen. Press System, Touchscreen, Calibrate Touchscreen. Follow the directions.
